Having just brought the curtain down on a series of negotiations over possible changes to federal rules governing higher education, the U.S. Education Department is starting a new round of deliberations -- and this time, the Obama administration is putting its stamp on the process by exploring several accountability issues related to for-profit higher education. In a notice published in the Federal Register Tuesday, the department said its officials expected one rule making panel to examine possible rules to carry out changes Congress made to the Higher Education Act last summer related to the eligibility of foreign medical and nursing schools to participate in U.S. financial aid programs. Due to the departure of David Knobel, Education Training Corporation, and Alex Amor, Fast Train, two seats were left vacant on the FAPSC Board of Directors. Those seats were filled by Claire Walker, Campus Director, Rasmussen College - Holiday campus and Linda Weldon, Director of Education with Ultimate Medical Academy.
Both of these ladies come to the board with lots of experience in the career education business and are proven leaders in the industry. Please help us welcome these two dynamic individuals to the board.
Even though FAPSC awarded 99 scholarships this year we still had over 500 scholarships that went un-awarded. Due to the overwhelming response from schools that participated in the 2009 program wanting to extend the deadline, FAPSC has agreed and the new deadine is June 30, 2009. A press release has been sent. If you would like to view the press release please click here. Applications will be sent to all participating schools and are available to download off our website.
Sign up for the 2010 scholarship program is currently underway. If your institution would like to participate, sign up information is available online. Packets were also mailed out to each campus director. FAPSC again has partnered with Florida Trend's NEXT Magazine® to offer discounted advertising to those schools offering scholarships to graduating high school seniors and G.E.D. recipients.

Someone you admire in the school profession and why? Dr. Keiser and Maria Christina Reguiero because they each had a vision and stuck with it to make it happen. I find that half of the battle in all things that we do is the commitment to see things through. To keep your eye on the goal no matter what the circumstances. To make the hard choices and the wise decisions necessary to mobilize and reach the goal. You cannot sit at one side of one table and expect things to move forward - you have to sit at all tables to see it through. I consider these folks mavericks in free market education.
