E-Flash A FAPSC membership publication February 24, 2009

FAPSC hosted its annual FAPSC Day event at the Capitol on February 17, 2009. Over 60 meetings were held with Legislators informing them about our sector and how you educate and prepare over 265,000 students each year for employment. Thirty-six FAPSC members particpated in this event and made a huge impact and quite an impression on Legislators. The FAPSC PAC Board met with Governor Charlie Crist. Governor Crist had an opportunity to hear from school leaders regarding how we impact students' lives. We give them hope for the future by providing a solid education, training and placing them in careers.
Session begins March 3rd and runs through May 12th.

On February 19, we were invited to testify before the House State and Community Colleges and Workforce Appropriations Committee.
Let us set the scene for you. We entered the room where chairs were in rows about four deep like a DMV waiting room. The committee, composed of seven members including Chairman Will Weatherford, and their support staff sat behind a large conference table facing the gallery.
The room filled and the meeting began. One by one, staff from various organizations spoke into the microphone at a podium and responded to questions and comments posed by the Representatives. We had our turn to tell the members about our school and its contributions to the community. Intimidating but very informative at the same time, we would encourage FAPSC members to set aside time to go to Tallahassee and support the FAPSC agenda.
Our own Kathy Mizereck represented us well with a presentation revealing the member schools’ diversity and contributions. She outlined the vast number of people educated at our institutions and some of the high demand fields that they enter into.
We know that we do an exceptional job at preparing students for professional careers. Let’s make a conscious effort to communicate that to our State Legislators.
