Can you believe another year has almost come and gone? Time flies when you are having fun, as the old saying goes. I am not sure we can all categorize this year as fun. With all the negative attacks on our sector in Florida as well as Washington, DC we need each other now more than ever!
That is why this year's dues renewal process "FAPSC Mission: Possible Leadership: Support : Advocacy for quality career education " is extremely important to all of us.
Please consider renewing your membership with FAPSC. We NEED EVERYONE to help us combat those trying to destroy our industry.
Renewing your membership can be done in 4 easy steps. To renew your school or company's membership you must be the designated primary contact. If you are unsure please contact Wanda Minick at Wanda@FAPSC.org or call (850) 577-3133.
Step 1: Log into our website www.FAPSC.org (Unless you have logged in before and changed it your username is your first and last name with no spaces. The first letter in each name is in capital letters. Ex. WandaMinick (W and M are caps- no spaces between the names). Password is “FAPSC” in all capital letters.
Step 2: Once you log in you will be in your member portal. As the primary contact you will have a "view organization"link. Click the green "view organization" link to view your school/company's member portal. Click the green "Renew" link to renew membership.
Step 3: This is where you will renew your membership! The page header is "School Membership Application." Please review and make sure that all the information we have on file is correct. If not, please make changes where necessary. Most of the information on this page will be displayed in our member directory so it is very important that you are listed correctly. Once information is completed and verified scroll down.
If you are renewing a school membership you will need to select your campus' gross revenue range to be assessed the appropriate membership dues.
Associate members renewing will automatically be assessed a $500 dues renewal fee. Next, you will select your response to consider making a contribution to FAPSC PAC. Then click the renew button.
Step 4: Payment Page! You should see your renewal amount plus the amount if you chose to contribute to FAPSC PAC. You can either pay now by credit card or click “bill me." If you choose the “bill me” option you will be brought back to the organization portal, scroll down the page and view "invoices & receipts" box and click on the printer icon to display invoice for printing. Please remit payment to FAPSC office at 150 South Monroe Street, Suite 303, Tallahassee, FL 32301and be sure to include the invoice number on your check.
Deadline to renew dues is February 28, 2011.

The FAPSC Continuting Education and Nursing Committee will host its first nursing workshop on Monday, January 24th at the Crowne Plaza in West Plam Beach, Fl. CEU's will be awarded that satisfy both the Board of Nursing and CIE requirements!
This workshop is for schools currently operating or thinking of starting a nursing program at their school.
Here is what you will learn from attending.
- Dr. Patricia Seabrooks, Director of Education for the Florida Board of Nursing, will review reporting requirements, application forms, and the “program compare” portal.
- Pearson Vue experts will discuss how to align curriculum and instruction with the NCLEX.
- Pam Corrigan, Consultant, will facilitate a self-assessment of your program.
- Kathy Mizereck, FAPSC Executive Director, will review the current statutes on nursing education programs.

Each year FAPSC opens nominations to the general membership to honor colleagues in the career college sector. These awards are announced at our annual conference. This year our conference was held in Hollywood, Florida on July 13-16, 2010. Since some of you did not get a chance to attend this event we will highlight an award winner each month in our e-Flash. This month we will highlight our Education Administrator of the Year, Jerry Kaber, University of Phoenix, Plantation
Jerry Kaber has been described by his peers at the University of Phoenix as going beyond the boundaries of academia to develop a sense of community and showcase faculty talents and curriculum. He assesses the needs of students and develops targeted workshops to aid their specific deficiencies when necessary. Jerry directs his faculty to follow a step-by-step approach in developing the student skill sets necessary for real-world success. He is involved from the new student orientation process to the graduation process capturing the essence of the students' educational journey and launching them from the classroom to a successful future.
FAPSC will host its 2nd Admissions Compliance Traning Workshop in Tallahassee at the ITT Technical Institute campus on December 16, 2010 from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Registration is FREE! This workshop will not only award 4 CEU's but will provide insight, explanation, and answers to all of your questions regarding best admission practices and CIE advertising rules.
Presenter Mitch Talenfeld is the CEO of MDT Direct, and MDT Tracking, Inc. He has been involved in advertising, and marketing for almost 30 years. Known for his ability to plan and execute complex marketing programs, he is widely recognized in the business community through his involvement and leadership in the Direct Marketing Industry. Mitch will navigate you through the processes in making sure your school is meeting CIE advertisting rules and regulations.
FAPSC has scheduled its 2011 Central Florida Conference at the Westin Lake Mary, Orlando North. Administrator day is Thursday, February 24 and faculty day is Friday, February 25th.

The government has stated clearly that their aim is the complete correction of the for-profit school business as we know it. The new rules and the eventual roll out of Gainful Employment will impact for-profit schools like a fabled comet to the dinosaurs. Some will adapt to the new world, but many will go extinct. As much as many of us may hate trite clichés, the accuracy of the statement is unalterable. Your system will either radically change direction or you will be a bag of bones and a memory. Read more.
