Gainful Employemnt Controversy Continues

The US Department of Education continues to push draft regulations that establish debt to income ratios, and DENY access to federal financial aid to students at institutions that do not meet the requirements.  The regulations are an attempt to define “gainful employment,” but have extremely negative consequences for our students, our programs, and our state’s economy and workforce.

Getting to Know Audrey Kaplan

Favorite book: Eat, Pray, Love.  Because she is brave enough to find out who she is and what she really wants.

Favorite movie: James Bond, any movie will stop my channel surfing.

Favorite music or musician:  I like all types of music, but can never remember who sings what!

Favorite quote: Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't. Eleanor Roosevelt

Someone you admire in the school profession and why?  Pedro DeGuzman, my boss.  I think he lives by my favorite quote.

Here is a brief bio on Ms. Kaplan

Audrey Kaplan grew up in South Florida the oldest of three children.  She graduated from American University in 1993, with a Bachelor of Arts from the School of International Service, focusing on studies in Western Europe and International Politics.  Audrey went on to graduate from Nova Southeastern Law School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1997, and has been a practicing attorney for over 12 years in South Florida.

Audrey worked for various corporations and law firms until she found her real passion working in proprietary education.  Her areas of expertise include: regulatory affairs, accreditation and compliance.  She is currently the Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at Florida Career College.

Audrey is married to Stuart Brisgel and they have one daughter, Margeaux.  In the little spare time Audrey has, she enjoys cooking, reading historical fiction and spy novels and spending time with her family and friends.  Though it is hard to get away she loves to travel and her favorite places to visit are: Chicago, IL; Portland, OR; France; and Italy.
